Armour of God, Nerd Style: Batman and the Belt of Truth

Image
The Armour of God (found in Ephesians 6:14-17 ) is a well known passage of scripture that most Christians could quote off the top of their heads.  However, it can lose meaning if we don't dive deeper on why Paul likely gave certain attributes of the armour pieces (truth, peace, faith, etc.) that he did. So to help in drawing that deeper connection and importance of these principles to their armour pieces, we are going to take the armour and make it NERDY STYLE!!!! Buckle up! First is the belt of truth ( Ephesians 6:14 ).  This might seem like a boring piece, but it is really the foundation of it all.  Without the belt there would be no way for a soldier (in the Roman army) to be able to carry their sword.  The belt would often hold the breast plate intact as well.  A belt was not just something to hold up your pants, but would give you peace of mind as you were moving forward in the fight: that you were equipped and ready. Batman's belt is the best example of t...

Paul: The Original Mandalorian

Image
If you have been following Star Wars content since 2019, you have likely heard of the series The Mandalorian . Some people have mixed reviews on the latest content, but I want to get into what has become The Mandalorian's most iconic line " This is the way ". Within the series, you find out that the Mandalorians were a group of people who had been eradicated by the Empire for their precious metals to make weapons and use for currency.  One of the things that added to the Mandalorian culture was their strict adherence to certain rules, which acted as a pathway for them in all that they did.  This path would often be affirmed with other Mandalorians in the uttering "This is the way". Part of these tenants was not removing your helmet, devotion to family and the Mandalorian race, as well as being prepared as one global warrior clan.  The Way was something that was taught at birth and driven to the very identity of your being. The most notable marking of a Mandalor...

Hey, Listen!

Image
If you are a 90's kid, like me, or love playing older games for fun you might have a twinge go up your back when you hear the phrase " Hey, listen! " However, if you are not familiar with this and are questioning my sanity (thank you btw), I am referring to Navi , the blue fairy that follows Link around in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time videogame.  Navi acts as a navigational guide and if you need some redirection you would hear the prompted phrase previously mentioned.  At first it is kind of cute, but it can get irritating when you get distracted with side missions/quests, as we all do. Ultimately though, Navi is there for your progression in the game and supporting you in your journey . At times when you need that direction, Navi can be a big help. We can be a lot like Link when we are starting out our journey in faith.  We are primed for adventure and ready to make an impact in the world, we have this voice/partner in the journey like Navi: the Holy Spirit ( ...

Tsuro: One Path Out of Many

Image
Imagine being able to play a game as a dragon, flying through the air and making your own path. But watch out! There are other dragons and their path might lead to your own destruction if you are not wise or tactful. I am talking about our latest favourite board game, Tsuro .  Your whole goal is to keep your dragon on the board by guiding its path and making it difficult for other dragons (players) to stay on; thus being the last dragon standing!  At then end of the game it is quite fun to see all these different paths laid out and to see all the possibilities that could have happened. However, there can only be one path to victory . Jesus said something very similar to this in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." In this passage, Jesus is talking about our relationship with God and being able to reconnect with Him forever.  Jesus is making the exclusive claim that He is the only way to connect to God (the...
