Side Quests: Missions/Priorities

Gamers, particularly ones who like to play RPGs (Role Playing Games), know that there is a legitimate struggle between focusing on the main story and wanting to do side quests/missions. Everyone gets the game for the main story and works toward its conclusion. Though, side quests are sometimes more fun than focusing on the main story, especially when you are struggling at a certain points. Take me for example. I love the Batman Arkham series games and have played through 3/4 of them in their completion.  However, in Batman: Arkham Knight, I have been getting distracted with side quests that I have left the main story for now years (this is in part because of not gaming by myself lately).  Part of it was the struggle of fighting major bosses, but also there have been some fun side quests with other characters that I love to interact with.  This is all to say that completing side quests and focusing on them for a while is not bad; they are part of getting things done toward the bigger story. Yet again, it is not the main story and always need to come back to the reason why we are playing the game.

Jesus threw down a similar call out to all of us doing the RPG called life. In His sermon on the mount, Jesus has different things that he called out that were other priorities in our life which tend to overshadow what we are supposed to focus on (we will cover these more in other Side Quest blogs). The question remains though, what is the main thing we are supposed to focus on? Jesus says this in Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” To summarize; we are to look for how God is moving around us in developing His purpose and we are to be living in a way that we are in good relationship/friendship with Him. Don’t worry about other things as much, but keep perspective on Jesus and where He has you to help show others what He is like. That’s our main story focus in it all when we are following Jesus.

How are you reminding yourself of what is the main priority/quest in your life in following Jesus? Are you feeling like there are a lot of side quests that you are taking on and loosing sight of what to hone in on? Ping/pin Matthew 6:33 somewhere you will frequently look at and get that reminder of what you need to be focusing on.

Nightcrawler's Faithful Love

Not going to lie, Nightcrawler is one of my favourite X-Men.  For people who might not know Nightcrawler other than being the demon looking mutant might ask why I would like such a person?  To me, he is the embodiment of the phrase "you should not judge a book by its cover, but by his heart and deeds". Every time I think of this hero I think of 1 Samuel 16:7 "Man judges by the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." Batman . I mean, hands down one of the coolest characters ever created. Some would argue he’s the greatest superhero of all time (they are obviously mistaken, Superman is the OG). But if you’ve been reading some of the more recent Batman comics, you’ll know that ol’ Brucie’s not doing so hot these days. It all kinda started when his bride to be, Selina Kyle (better known to some as Catwoman ) left him at the alter. What had, to that point, been something of an upward trend for the Dark Knight suddenly took a hard pivot into the awful and the poor guy has not been able to catch a break since. Now, sure, some of these things have been factors well outside of his control. Like being trapped thousands of miles away while Bane killed Alfred , his belov'd mentor and adoptive father. Voltron = The Church?

Voltron might ring a bell to you if you watched the 1984 classic anime or if you have kiddos that like to watch lion shaped spacecrafts from the latest 2016 version on Netflix.  Either way this show has some moments that are fantastic to drive home.  A unique thing about the show is that Voltron is the title of the giant space robot that is formed from the five lion shaped spacecrafts (check out this link to see it for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtqKaUc6Uas&ab_channel=VOLTRON ). So these lions are piloted by five " paladins " that are to protect the galaxy from any evil threats.  Each one is powerful and has their own abilities, but they can't force the team to become Voltron.  Voltron is only made by the five paladins working in unity as one and having the same goal in their fight to save the galaxy .
