Ich bin euer schild!

What's not to love about a character like Reinhardt (Overwatch tank hero)? He is a giant, older man who dives into the fray to protect his team in the middle of the fight.  This epic, German hero not only has a ginormous rocket hammer and massive armour, but also sports an immensely huge energy shield.  An energy shield that acts as both protection and a mobile fortress for the team to advance their ground.  However, this all pails in comparison to the enthusiastic battle cry from this mythically large brute, "Ich bin euer schild!" Translated from German to English (varified by our own German International Staff) "I am your shield!" As a player in the game I have seen this shield in action and it definitely offers a sense of peace as well as a drive to advance forward in competitive game play.

I know in my life I have been in what feels like a battlefield.  A battlefield in my mind of what I think of myself or the worry of what others think about me.  The battlefield of being enough for the people around me and feeling that I come up short for them.  My battlefield in sharing my connection with Jesus to a world that is not so open to hearing about it or is a bit apprehensive toward it.

One image that keeps me in the midst of this battlefield (really called life) is God being my shield! This concept is not just found in one place in the Bible, but all over (Psalm 18:2; 28:7; 33:20; 115:9-11). A very famous verse is Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble." God is the original and better Reinhardt in our lives! He is there as our defender and one we can run to when we are being battered.  He will rush to our aid if we call for him.

Are you feeling battered and need a shield defending you in the battlefield of life?  Have you tried calling to God who is calling out to you "Ich bin euer schild"?
