Destiny: So I'll Love - By PLo
Those who know me know that Destiny is hands down my favourite video game. I’ve been playing since Destiny 1, and jumped into the second one shortly after its release. I could give you many reasons why it’s my favourite, but right now I’m going to focus on one.
In the Destiny games, there are several different varieties of enemies you face. In the first instalment you’re introduced to several of them, but it wasn’t until the later on in the second game that we find our perspective challenged.
At different points, we find ourselves having to work together with two of our eldest enemies; the Cabal and the Eliksni. Both of these enemies have taken much from us, and us from them. However when we find ourselves fighting enemies we cannot stop alone, teaming up is our only option.
Both the Cabal and Eliksni only came to our world because they were fleeing something else. Fear and misunderstanding are powerful enemies, and they caused us to quickly decide that these beings were enemies as well. It is only in working alongside them that we learn the real stories and can start to break down the misconceptions of centuries past.
Jesus lived a life full of love. It drove those in leadership nuts that He would choose to spend his time with and love on those they didn’t deem fit. In the message version of John 13:34-35, we read:
““Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.””
The world will see that we are His through our love for those around us.
We tend to let our fear and misunderstanding prevent us from loving those around us, at least I know I have. Through working with the Cabal and Eliksni we begin to understand them, and in doing so we also love them. In my time working with several “outcast” groups in our society, I’ve been able to love on a lot of people who’ve never experienced love before. If I’d let my fear and misconceptions of these groups cloud my judgement, I would have missed some amazing experiences and opportunities.
It’s through our love that others are able to see Christ through us. There’s this old saying that says “you may be the only Jesus someone ever meets”. Are there people in your life that you’ve let fear and misconceptions prevent you from loving on? I challenge you to try changing your perspective, they might just surprise you. Besides, this world is crazy and I think we could all use a little love right now.
